CircularJourney

Western Europe — 2028

Netherlands

The Netherlands has set national circular economy targets and applied them hardest where the material volumes actually are: construction and demolition. It is a useful test of whether a target changes an industry.
Future missionUnder consideration for a later phase of the programme.

Research question

Does a national circularity target change what industry builds with, or only what it reports?

Written before the mission, and published unchanged. Findings are assessed against this question rather than the question being rewritten to fit the findings.

Research scope

Circular economy as industrial policy

What we want to understand

  1. 01How construction and demolition material is recovered and reused in practice.
  2. 02What procurement rules do that voluntary commitments do not.
  3. 03How circularity is measured nationally, and what that measure misses.
  4. 04Which sectors have moved and which have not.
  5. 05What the target has cost, and who paid.

Missions

No mission scheduled

This country is on the roadmap but no mission has been planned in detail yet.

Findings

No findings yet

Field research in Netherlands is future mission. This section stays empty until there is something we have actually seen. The questions above are what we will be asking.

What India could take from Netherlands

Assessment pending

Any judgement about transfer to India would be speculation until the system has been seen working, and its costs and dependencies understood. Anything published here will be labelled as a proposal until a pilot reports.

What Netherlands could take from India

Nothing has been researched yet, so nothing is claimed. These are the parts of India’s experience we expect to be worth putting in front of practitioners here, and what we will ask them about.

  • Circular practice driven by material value rather than regulation.
  • Reuse and remanufacture economies operating at scale without subsidy.

Case studies

No case studies yet

Case studies are published from field research, with sources and limitations.

Film and clips

Filming follows the field visit. Clip subjects are planned in advance and listed on the clips page.
